What is telehealth?

Telehealth helps you access counseling from the convenience of your home. At Collaborative Counseling we provide telemental health treatment using a HIPAA compliant, live, two-way audio/video communication video and audio platform. Telehealth allows you to meet for counseling with one of our therapists through a computer camera, smartphone or tablet.

There are many terms used for telehealth, including: online counseling, teletherapy, online therapy and telemental health. At Collaborative Counseling, these terms are synonyms, and they all mean counseling services from the comfort of your own home!

Why should I choose online counseling services?

Collaborative Counseling's telehealth service offers the convenience of being able to meet from your computer or phone, while still receiving the best possible counseling service. Telehealth counseling makes it more accessible and convenient to keep appointments. Research supports telehealth and has found it to be as effective as in-person therapy sessions. Telehealth gives you the support and help you need, with the convenience of being able to access services no matter where you are.

How do I meet with my therapist?

We offer telehealth through a HIPAA compliant and secure platform called Zoom. Upon scheduling an intake, we will email you the link to your telehealth session, which you can access on your Android Chrome, iPhone (iOS Safari) and most browsers (Chrome, Safari or FireFox). No need to download any software.

Does my insurance cover it?

Most insurance plans currently allow us to bill telehealth. For Minnesota and Wisconsin, we are in network and able to provide telehealth to Aetna, America's PPO/Mayo, BCBS MN, Anthem BCBS of Wisconsin, Cigna, ComPsych, HealthPartners, Medica, MN Medicaid, Optum, Preferred One, Tricare, United Behavioral Health (UBH)/United Health Care (UHC) and UCare. Most EAPs also cover telehealth. To verify that your plan covers telehealth, we recommend calling your insurance.

In Minnesota, parity laws in place mean that insurance companies must cover telehealth the same as regular in-person counseling. Wisconsin state laws are not as clear, however, most private insurers will cover these services.

How do I login to my appointment?

We will email you a link to go to at the time of your appointment. We recommend that 5 minutes prior to the start of your session you click the link. You will then enter the online waiting room when you arrive. Your therapist will "meet you" for your session in Zoom. Please give your therapist until 5 minutes after your appointment start time to arrive. If you still have not started your session, please call us at 763-210-9966 for assistance.
