Clinical Approach

I provide individual, family, and couples therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a range of mental health issues/disorders. I utilize the following therapies: Cognitive-Behavioral, DBT skills, Solution-Focused Brief, Motivational interviewing, Narrative, and Trauma focused therapy. My primary focus is to help change the patterns of thinking or behavior thus changing how they feel and view themselves. I strive to use person-centered therapy, including empathic understanding and nonjudgmental acceptance and providing a safe environment while helping individuals to graduate from services and move towards maintenance.

In my free time I enjoy getting outside, spending time with my family, doing hot yoga, exercising, traveling, cooking, watching my kids play sports, snowboarding and playing sand volleyball.

I am educated, trained and experienced in a wide variety or therapeutic counseling approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, Trauma Informed Therapy, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, Autism Therapy, and Co-Occuring Disorders Therapy.

I meet each client where they are at in their own season of life, using the best approach tailored to meet the needs of the client. I am most passionate about helping those who are struggling with relationships, grief, trauma, and anxiety, however I am always available for clients who are experiencing struggles outside of these areas. This is my calling, I am here for you.

I am an avid outdoors woman who lives on a lake in Northern Wisconsin. I love boating, water-skiing, snowmobiling, basically anything outdoors. I am also an avid book reader. I have two grown daughters who are both married with children.

I graduated from Viterbo University in 2015 with a Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling. I am currently completing my Ph.D. in Advanced Studies of Human Behavior at Capella University. I have a passion for working with others to assist them in living “their best life”. I have been blessed to have a wide range of experience including working with parents with custody and placement issues, addictions, court systems and jail population, Alaskan Natives, children, adults, and military members and their families. I am experienced in individual, group, couples, and family therapies as well as psycho-educational groups.

I use an integrated approach to therapy which has a foundation in client-centered therapy. This means we will work together to develop a tailor-made plan just for you. I believe in working alongside each other as a team. This is your time and your plan. I believe most people will say I have a gentle demeanor and a caring personality. I want all my clients to have a positive experience in therapy and feel comfortable sharing their cares, concerns, and dreams.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs hanging out at the house, the camper, or riding the ATV/UTV trails.

Leah is honored to walk alongside others as they engage in their own personal journeys toward greater health and well-being. Her goal is to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for treatment of those from 4 to 80+ years old. She begins by exploring developmental, biological, interpersonal, and intrapersonal factors involved in the difficulties that bring clients into therapy.

Throughout the course of treatment, Leah will work with clients and their families to increase their ability to appropriately identify and express emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, process change and loss, gain relational skills, and increase self-regulation. The work she does frequently involves collaboration with families, schools, medical providers, and other parties involved in the lives of her clients. Leah enjoys providing therapeutic services to individuals throughout the lifespan. Some of her areas of interest include: accelerated resolution therapy, play-based therapy, behavioral interventions, mindfulness, depression, grief/loss, anxiety, trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, behavioral disorders, and difficulties related to parenting. Leah is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP). She is also a Certified BASIC Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Practitioner.

Outside of work, Leah enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, exploring, traveling, learning, relaxing, and finding new outlets for her creativity.
