Gain Clarity, Understand Your Brain and Find Your Next Steps

Have you often wondered why staying focused, managing time, getting started or keeping up with daily responsibilities seems harder than it should?

For many adults, difficulties with attention and executive functioning have been present for years—but may have been overlooked, misunderstood or attributed to anxiety, stress, lack of motivation or personal shortcomings. An adult ADHD evaluation can help you better understand how your brain works and identify meaningful strategies for moving forward.

Collaborative Counseling offers comprehensive, neurodiversity-affirming ADHD evaluations for adults ages 18 and older in Minnesota. Our goal is not simply to identify challenges. We help you recognize your strengths, understand areas where additional support may be useful and leave the process with practical recommendations tailored to your life.

What Is a Comprehensive Adult ADHD Evaluation?

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation gathers information about your current experiences, personal history and executive functioning to determine whether your symptoms are consistent with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

The evaluation explores areas such as:

  • Attention and concentration
  • Time management
  • Working memory
  • Planning and organization
  • Task initiation and follow-through
  • Impulse management
  • Emotional regulation
  • Hyperactivity or cognitive restlessness

The process includes a detailed clinical interview and structured assessment measures. Your evaluator considers the whole person rather than relying on one questionnaire or a brief symptom checklist.

Our evaluations are provided from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective. ADHD is not viewed as a personal failure or character flaw. We work to understand both your strengths and the areas in which your environment, routines or support systems may not be meeting your needs.

Signs You May Benefit From an Adult ADHD Assessment

ADHD can look different from one person to another. Some adults experience noticeable restlessness or impulsivity, while others primarily struggle with attention, organization or feeling mentally overwhelmed.

You may consider an evaluation if you frequently:

  • Lose track of time or underestimate how long tasks will take
  • Struggle to begin tasks, even when they are important
  • Become easily distracted during conversations, meetings or daily activities
  • Forget appointments, deadlines or responsibilities
  • Have difficulty organizing your home, work or school responsibilities
  • Start projects with enthusiasm but struggle to complete them
  • Feel overwhelmed by tasks that seem manageable to others
  • Experience racing thoughts or persistent mental restlessness
  • Hyperfocus on interesting activities while losing awareness of other priorities
  • Feel frustrated by inconsistent productivity
  • Have a history of being described as distracted, disorganized, overly talkative or “not living up to your potential”

These experiences do not automatically mean that you have ADHD. Anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep concerns, medical conditions and other factors can sometimes create similar difficulties. A thoughtful evaluation helps clarify what may be contributing to your experiences.

What Can I Learn From an ADHD Evaluation?

An evaluation can offer more than a diagnostic answer. It may provide:

  • Greater self-understanding
  • Personalized executive-functioning strategies
  • Treatment recommendations
  • Medication-management referrals
  • Documentation for accommodations

When supported by the evaluation findings, documentation may be provided to assist with formal accommodation requests for work or school. A particular diagnosis or accommodation recommendation cannot be guaranteed. Whether or not the evaluation results in an ADHD diagnosis, you will receive information and practical recommendations designed to help you better understand and support your executive functioning.

What to Expect During the Evaluation Process

Step 1: Submit an inquiry

Complete our ADHD evaluation inquiry form with basic information about your concerns, previous evaluations, accommodation needs and interest in medication support.

Step 2: Initial consultation

An evaluator will contact you for a brief consultation. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions and helps determine whether this evaluation process is an appropriate fit for your needs.

Step 3: Evaluation meeting

The initial evaluation meeting generally lasts approximately four hours. It includes structured questionnaires, assessment measures and a clinical interview focused on understanding your history, current concerns, strengths and executive functioning.

Step 4: Results and feedback meeting

Approximately one week later, you will return for a feedback meeting lasting up to one hour. Your evaluator will explain the findings, answer your questions and review personalized recommendations and resources with you.

Evaluations may be available in person at our Maple Grove, Minnesota office or through secure Telehealth for eligible adults physically located in Minnesota at the time of service. Availability and format will be confirmed during the consultation process.

Cost of an Adult ADHD Evaluation

The total fee for the comprehensive ADHD evaluation is $1,450. This includes:

  • The three- to four-hour evaluation meeting
  • Assessment scoring and clinical interpretation
  • Preparation of evaluation findings
  • The results and feedback meeting
  • A personalized Executive Functioning Toolkit
  • Treatment and resource recommendations, when appropriate

A $300 nonrefundable deposit is required when scheduling and is applied toward the total fee. The remaining balance of $1,150 is due at the end of the initial evaluation meeting.

ADHD evaluations are currently offered as a self-pay service and are not billed to insurance. The fee applies regardless of whether the evaluation results in an ADHD diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions About Adult ADHD Evaluations

Do you evaluate children or teenagers for ADHD?

At this time, Collaborative Counseling’s comprehensive ADHD evaluation service is available only to adults ages 18 and older.

Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD later in life?

Yes. Some people reach adulthood without having their attention or executive-functioning differences formally recognized. An evaluation considers both current concerns and relevant patterns from earlier stages of life.

Is an online ADHD evaluation available?

Telehealth evaluations may be available to adults who are physically located in Minnesota at the time of service. Your evaluator will discuss whether an online or in-person format is most appropriate for your circumstances.

Does the evaluation guarantee an ADHD diagnosis?

No. The purpose of the evaluation is to gather and carefully consider information. Results may support an ADHD diagnosis, identify another possible explanation or indicate that additional evaluation is needed.

What happens if I do not receive an ADHD diagnosis?

You will still receive feedback about your strengths and areas of executive-functioning difficulty, along with a personalized toolkit and recommendations that may help you move forward.

Can you prescribe ADHD medication?

Collaborative Counseling does not provide medication management as part of the evaluation. Your evaluator may offer referrals to qualified prescribing professionals when appropriate.

Can the evaluation support workplace or college accommodations?

When the evaluation findings support a need for accommodations, your evaluator may provide documentation and recommendations. Approval is determined by the employer, school or other organization receiving the request.

Is the evaluation covered by insurance?

The evaluation is currently a self-pay service and is not billed to insurance. The total fee is $1,450, including the evaluation and feedback meetings.

Take the Next Step Toward Greater Clarity

You have likely spent a great deal of time trying to work harder, stay organized or push through your difficulties. An evaluation can help you move away from blame and toward a clearer understanding of your brain, your strengths and the support that may help you thrive.
