Clinical Approach

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families. I have worked with clients struggling with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, parenting related issues, and perinatal mental health concerns.

The decision to start therapy takes courage. I am truly honored to be a part of my client's journey of growth. Whether you are facing a major life change, have experienced trauma, or are just looking for a place to receive support, I am here to walk alongside you. Drawing largely from psychodynamic, attachment and systemic therapy approaches, I find value in exploring the past to create a more productive future. Additionally, as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I use a systemic lens when working with clients. I believe learning about how culture, community, and family or origin have impacted my client's development and their world views is critical for growth to occur. I will work to learn about my clients and individuals and honor what is important to them in order to work together on therapy goals.

Knowing that clients are the experts on their own lives, I develop individual therapy treatment plans collaboratively with clients. I strive to foster a strong, trusting, non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship, as this is essential to the therapy work. My goal as a therapist is to create a therapy space that is comfortable, supportive, and fun, where learning and growth can occur.

Then, helping clients navigate through life’s challenges, exploring problems, discovering potentials, priorities and solutions in an effort to achieve their goals, leading them to a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Witnessing people create these meaningful changes has been Catherine’s greatest privilege as a therapist.

Through a collaborative process, Catherine works to find an approach that best meets each client’s personality and goals. Her approach is described as integrative, individualized, non- judgmental, empathetic and draws upon principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Theory, psychoeducation, and mindfulness. Catherine offers hope with a caring communication style that emphasizes acceptance and empowerment. Some areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, self esteem, life transitions, relationship issues, grief & loss, stress management, and attachment issues. Catherine has years of experience working with adults. She particularly enjoys working with individuals, and can do families too.

Catherine was born in California, but was raised in Minnesota. She received her Bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University and Master’s degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. She has spent the last 6 years working in private practice providing therapy, and the 6 years before that providing community based mental health services, including therapy, case management, community outreach and crisis intervention. In addition to clinical skills, she brings a lot of knowledge about community resources into her practice.

In her free time, Catherine enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 boys and dog; family, traveling, shopping, crafting, hanging out with friends, and spending as much time as she can at their family cabins.

He/Him/His Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Education

Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy - ACU

Bachelor of Christian Ministry, Psychology & Counseling degree - OCC

Clinical Approach

Ben is a therapist because he believes everyone is the hero or heroine of their own story, but sometimes life happens, and those stories can get off track or turned around. He is passionate about helping people get their stories back on track. Therapy begins with a supportive and accepting place to tell those stories.

Ben has been working as a clinician and providing therapeutic services since 2012. He has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, couple, and family settings. Ben works with clients 10 years old and up. He has provided therapeutic services for anxiety, anger, depression, PTSD, self-harm and suicidal ideation, among other clinical diagnoses. Ben has also had specific experience with self-esteem building, identity development, college/career adjustment, parenting, and life transitions.

Ben’s therapy style is warm and accepting, with clients as the experts on who they are, where they are in life, and where they want to go. As a therapist, Ben works to provide a supportive and encouraging environment that includes honesty, acceptance, and hopefully a little humor too. Through creative and collaborative efforts that start from clients’ strengths and goals for themselves, change can come at personal and interpersonal levels. With an emphasis on the importance of family and social relationships as part of the individual’s environment, Ben uses a flexible and eclectic style that incorporates Narrative, Solution-Focused, Intergenerational, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies.

Research has shown that no specific orientation or technique is as important to successful therapy than the alliance or relationship between client and counselor. Clients are welcome and even encouraged to provide feedback on the therapeutic relationship to benefit themselves and the process of therapy.

Outside the office, Ben spends as much time as possible with his wife, son, and daughter. He also enjoys stories of all kinds: movies, books, tv, games, and theater. Whenever the weather permits, Ben likes to play soccer and go camping.
